I read Mike Weisser a lot. I like what he is saying mostly. He meanders a bit trying to get to his point but he raises some interesting questions and does not run around like Chicken Little screaming the sky is falling. He thinks the media is blowing up Trump’s potential power grab to get attention to their articles.

Mike recently wrote an article “Will Trump Turn America into a Fascist State” and I started to respond in the comments but it was getting so long that I decided to write my own article about it to address what Mike is talking about.

I think the point that Mike is trying to get across is how could a country as wealthy and affluent as the United States spawn someone like Hitler and have that person come into power and do what Hitler did? The answer to that question is under normal circumstances it doesn’t happen. Germany in the 1930s was a wreck. The world was entering a deep depression and Germany was hit hard. By 1932, 6 million Germans were unemployed (It was mostly men and women didn’t work) in a nation of about 60 million people. It’s no wonder that someone like Hitler came into power. People were desperate for work and change and wanted a “strong” leader. A characteristic often cited by Trump. Hitler came along at the right time and exploited the situation.
