While it's true that we have a backstop to protect our country that other countries don't have in the fifty autonomous states that are basically mini countries and this was by design. Thankfully I am on the west coast and worst case scenario, the three western states will probably break off before Texas ever does. But I think we'll never get to that...

Are we going into an Autocratic era under Trump? That remains to be seen. Elon Musk seems to have read too many 1960s science fiction books on Eugenics and benevolent world dictators and thinks he's going to run every eventually... I see more parallels between the situation we are in and the French Revolution vs. Germany in the 1930s. Here we are in the most prosperous time in our country's history and people are mad. They are mad about the oligarchs and our crappy healthcare and low wages and how hard it is to get ahead these days. They are mad about real estate. Mad about the price of eggs. They are very mad but unfortunately Trump has hijacked that line of thought and run with it. Immigration and inflation... And this is happening around the world. We, collectively the western governments, haven't done enough to raise everyone up and now everyone wants to come to our great countries. Just a warning to Elon and the rest of the oligarchs... if they keep taking and not giving back, there will be bad consequences from the masses... it happened in France and the USA a couple hundred years ago and it can happen again.
