We are nearing retirement and my wife and I have this debate constantly. When we were 20 years younger she would get mad at the amount of work the house needed and say we (all four of us and a dog) into an apartment because it would be low maintenance. But now she is happy because our house, which we've owned for 22 years, has 5x in value and now we have a great retirement nest egg. But I know we got lucky. Now the question is what to do when we retire. There is literally so much equity in this house it would be life changing and I want to sell and maybe rent a house. She wants to stay until we can't maintain it anymore. Around these parts there are fewer home rentals than homes for sale and I really don't want to put down a huge amount of money into another house. These are the dilemmas
