Unfortunately this is quite common in the USA. People give zero thought until now and look at their lot in life (price of eggs up! The president is bad!). All I can say is that many Germans felt like they were caught by surprise by Hitler taking over. If Trump is elected the same thing will happen in a few years in this country.
