This is a dead end no win strategy. This is what happens when they feel cornered like a feral animal. They are shedding supporters like crazy, especially after the insurrection attempt. Why do they continue? Because they feel as if the alternative of democratic rule is worse then lighting the world on fire. When you frame it between those two options, it's clear why they keep doing it. Either way they will lose, even if it comes down to widespread violence...
