That's the defeatist attitude we need! Nobody is saying that space travel won't be hard. It will be very hard and expense. I too am skeptical that going to Mars or even the asteroid belt is even worth it for humans. Robots will do a far better job. You and I will be long dead and our ancestors will still be figuring it out. As long as something is technically possible, I think people will dream about it and possibly do it. But it will be harder, more expensive and deadly than most people realize, but I am never ruling it out...
