Technically I am a boomer, but I identify more with Generation Jones kids born between 1958 and 1964 we came of age in the 1970s and have less to do with traditional boomers than you would think. Watch the movie "Dazed and Confused" if you want a taste of what my high school years were like.... anyway I am still active in the job market. Landed a new software engineering job at 60. Been writing code for 35 years. None of my friends that are around my age come even close to these blanket statements. I agree that there are a lack of good jobs. They seem to be increasingly sent off shore or given to H1B visa holders for lower wages. Don't believe the unemployment numbers. If you took out fast food and travel and restaurants, the unemployment numbers are very bleak and getting worse. My college kids are going to step into an nightmare for employment chance. They might have to live with us for a while when they graduate. They are welcome to live here as long as it takes.
