Personally as an introverted software engineer, I never want to go back to the office. We have the tools we need to be highly productive in a remote setting. Period. I have been more productive with less distractions and at the same time saving a lot of time and money. I do understand that people in small apartments and maybe shared living arrangements this might be hard to get work done, but that's why our companies should have flexible arrangements. Even my dyed in the wool, no WFH ever company is now going to let us do two days a week. I think they realized that if they didn't, a huge chunk of women would quit and we are almost 50% women in our very large IT department. The burden of childrearing and house chores falls on women's shoulders for the most part and as tough as WFH was in the beginning I think many people have adjusted and it works better for them, especially in the child rearing years. The companies that get it and offer hybrid models will figure out the tools and will attract the best talent. Those that don't will be left behind.
