My very first article I ever wrote back in January went "viral" with thousands of views and I realized even I wasn't a great writer, there were people out there that wanted to read my political musings. I really jumped into it in May of this year but almost as soon as I did, things started to fizzle out after the last bonus payment was issued. I thought I wrote a few good articles and what was working a few months earlier wasn't working anymore so I started writing under different topics which did OK but I never got back to where I was in June so I have pretty much given up writing.

I can only speculate on a couple of things. They want to change the direction to Medium. I don't know if the number crunchers have been working their spreadsheets or what but Medium probably rode the Trump outrage wave and now they are done. It looks like anything dealing with current events is falling dramatically in views. I'm just speculating here but they probably get a lot more internal views for self help type articles than they do for political stuff. Political writings probably get a lot more outside views.

I have been writing and blogging for over 12 years and it's just a part time passion, you are beholden to the whims of the almighty Algorithm. Never put your eggs in one basket. Diversify across multiple platforms.
