Most people want to work at Google (or Apple or Amazon or insert top tier tech company) because of prestige and aren’t prepared for the bullshit they need to go through to stay there. I worked at Microsoft for six years and it was a fucking grind. These companies expect a lot out of you and that’s fine as long as the money keeps flowing. Inflated salaries attract people like moths to light. The competition and gatekeeping go over the top. But once people get in and they say to themselves, is this really all there is? and they leave to get back to a more sane working environment. Having Google on your resume can unlock a lot of doors.
