Let's think about this. Aliens that can cross interstellar distances and maybe can travel faster than light, but can't hide themselves from our technology? That makes zero sense. We can already hide ourselves from our enemies in a variety of camouflage and stealth technologies. Why would they show themselves like this? That's just sloppy. Especially if they've been here since at least the 1940s. They would know our technology inside and out and how to evade it. There has to be another explanation for all of this.
If it is aliens, why haven't they contacted us yet? Is this the Zoo Hypothesis of the Fermi paradox? Also, known as the Prime Directive in Star Trek? But why be so sloppy? They really don't need drones hovering off the coast of North America to gather what they need. I think the answer is a terrestrial one that we don't know yet.
But, if you are right and the AI is really super smart a super gradual rollout of a "coming out" to the human race might be the best move on their part. If this is true, we can only hope they are benevolent. This planet could use some help right now...
