I will argue we need fake (aka shit) jobs too. We are slowly sliding into a weird dystopian (some might call it utopian) version of Fully Automated Luxury Space Communism but only for a select few while the serfs take care of all the needs of the few. AI and offshoring jobs will wipe out huge swaths of jobs just like the industrial revolution did and then offshoring of manufacturing jobs in the post WW2 era did in the USA. Except this time, there will not be a whole new way to work. Blue collar jobs have gone. White collar jobs are going. I guess we can all become TikTok influencers or Only Fans contributors. I hate Donald Trump but he has tapped into the anxiety and desperation of this trend. What do you do with the masses of people that can't find jobs anymore? I don't have any answers...
