I think I followed the same path as you on Umair. I started reading him during the Trump years when he was predicting so much doom and gloom. If felt like a warm blanket to snuggle with all the doom porn. But after Biden won and none of the bullshit he was spewing came true, I knew he was just another purveyor of Doom Porn(tm). He and Jessica Wildfire (looks like she left Medium in December and moved to substack https://jessicawildfire.substack.com/ ) where she has been on a tear since December on the Doom Porn. Jessica has told us for the past couple of years that Covid was going to bring about societal collapse (that didn't happen did it?). She blocked me here on Medium before I barely knew what she was about because I contradicted her on a key point. That was about three years ago. Umair never responds to comments so I have no idea if he reads them.

Both of them (and others) have made a living telling us the world is falling apart and we are all going to die real soon now. There are various reasons why it works so well. It's always been a recipe for success, especially in the evangelical community but now has gone mainstream.

Anyway, Medium knows which side their bread is buttered on and so they promote doom porn because it makes them money. I suggest if you want to boost your followers just ChatGPT to create a bunch of doom porn articles. Rinse and repeat.
