I ran a small boutique winery here in the USA for 10 years before it went under do to the explosion of wineries and a drop in consumption. This was about 10 years ago. We had a small vineyard and also buy grapes on the side. It's back breaking work during harvest. When we weren't pruning or training the vines, we were selling our product. Which I hated because I wanted to do all the manual labor and couldn't afford a salesperson. It is all very romantic until you need to pay bills and payroll. If you are an employee making wine, it's usually a lowly wage (at least here in the USA) and soooo many people want to do it, we could get people to work for free (most of the time). Thankfully I went back to software engineering because the wine business is nuts.
