I have no faith that Republicans will step up in a crisis of their own making. They are afraid of “the base” and it seems many within the republican leadership want an actual authoritarian government to impose their ideals on the rest of us no matter what the constitution says. They are getting backed into a corner and who knows how Trump and his loyalists will lash out. It wouldn’t take many armed people to storm the capitol again. 10,000? 100,000? They could easily do it. Nobody in republican hierarchy would stop them.
