I don't feel too sorry for most of these people in the tech layoffs. I was in tech 20 years ago during the dot com bust and had a lot of friends laid off or fired. All of them landed back on their feet because they were young and highly qualified to go run the next big thing. It's all the other non tech business that are slowly laying off people. The hospitals and the retail stores and real estate companies and so on... Many of these are older workers that will not find a good job because they are not young enough. I've lived through trying to find a good job as a software engineer in my 50s and it's not pretty. I can keep up with the young coders but they don't want to work with a "boomer" (even though I am technically too young to be a boomer).
