I completely agree. But let's differentiate between having a cellar to age wine and buying wine on a speculative market. Wine is meant to be drunk and sure some is very valuable because of quality and quantity. But, as you mention, scams are prevalent in the industry. Just like art, wine is easy to counterfeit because there is no way to verify older bottles (that is changing now). Most "collector" wine is garbage anyway and tends to be veblen goods only afforded by the very wealthy and hardly appreciated for what it is, except an expensive bottle of wine to show your friends.
