Having worked at the CIA for ten years I know a little how this works. Usually, they get some compromising information on the person they want to recruit to turn them into spying on their country. Except with Trump, I think he was a willing participant. They fed him money and he provided access and information. I’m sure he could run cover for many a Russian spy in the USA and when the time came Russia turned their asset into a run for the White House. The damage he did to national interests while president is incalculable. Just look at all the top secret documents he had. But a funny thing happened. People got sick of his schtick. Biden got elected and the vast majority of Americans slept soundly for a few years. I just saw one of those town hall things where they asked former Trump voters who they wanted and if they would vote for Trump again. Every single one said they didn’t want Biden or Trump but most especially didn’t want Trump. I honestly think he has no way to win. He’s old and tired. His message is just hate and grievance. Nobody wants that.
