First I don't think we are going to completely collapse our society. Too much corporate money involved.

Secondly, you assume we, as a country, would work together to actively split up our country. That will never happen. Even if we did, wouldn't be across existing state boundaries, it would be more geographical in nature. Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon would gladly be part of Idaho if those states let them.

Just like an alcoholic needs to hit rock bottom before we try to improve ourselves, we as a country haven't gotten there yet. It will happen shortly after the 2024 election. It will be a time of massive unrest and maybe countless deaths. It can be averted and we might muddle our way through all of this like we did after all the unrest of 1968. Time will tell as we get closer to the election what craziness will happen. But your idea of a neatly packaged breakup is never going to happen because we are greedy humans.
