Every time I hear this I think what the hell do people think this country was like in the 1960s during the mass protest and civil war riots? We had a cold war that almost went hot with the USSR, we had a pointless war in Vietnam. Students getting shot by National Guard. Assassinations of top political leaders. Apartheid in most of the South yet here we are 50 years later and a much more interconnected country.
