Brian, I hate to break the bad news to you but producing wine generates far more CO2 than cork trees can consume. The fermentation process generates huge amounts of CO2. When I ran my winery we had the option of going to plastic corks and never did. That would be a crime against humanity. Also, wine corks can be reused into a variety of products. We really should use it for more things to lock up more CO2. But making wine is a net producers of CO2. Someday I'll tell you how I almost killed myself walking into the winery with a room filled with CO2...
