Because a pipeline would be cost prohibitive and only good for supplying drinking water at best. You simply cannot build one big enough. There was a way. It was a flipping river and now it’s going dry. That’s the size of pipe you’d need to build. A better solution is to not build more houses in the desert. But this is a self limiting problem. Eventually water will get too expensive and people will move to wetter areas.
