Americans are taught at a very young age that each person is special and our needs come before everyone else. In Asian and some European cultures the needs of the village or collective come before the individual. It's probably why socialism works so much better in Northern Europe than here. Our capitalistic society has produced a whole country of whiners and complainers whose needs are never met. it's that way to feed the consumer culture where everyone is competing to out spend each other.
