After 1990, as you say we prioritized corporate welfare in the name of trickle down economics, politicians created a huge problem by shoving so many people down the income ladder with no way out. The GOP quickly saw this and exploited it through things like the Tea Party to supposedly help these oppressed people. But this was far from the truth. The GOP turned into a money generating machine. They knew that these people needed something to believe in and Fox news and Trump showed them the way and at the same time are fleecing these poor desperate people out of whatever money they have. It's very unfortunate that we've gotten to this point because these people are becoming so desperate they believe anything Donald Trump tells them. They might get so desperate as to start a civil war.
